I am using a 'company' laptop and much prefer the Absolute Telnet over the provided SmarTerm stuff. However, a recent issue caused the laptop to be re-imaged. Also, somewhere along the line, I was removed from the local admin group and now when I try to re-install Absolute Telnet I get a message that says I must be logged in as Administrator to install this product.
This is probably a stupid question, but is there anyway to install this without being administrator?
The short answer is 'Yes', but the normal installer won't allow it. To do it, download and run this modified installer to install without the admin requirement:
<old link removed> Please download version 7.21 or newer.
With this installer, all operations are done at the user level. All registry settings that are normally made under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE are now made in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch. You probably don't even have rights to install under c:\\program files, so you'll have to do something like install in c:absolutetelnet or in your documents directory or somewhere you have permissions to write. The only caveat here is that NOBODY else will be able to see this installation except for you. If you are the only user of this PC, then you're probably OK with that. Let me know how this works for you! Enjoy! Brian
Worked like a charm!
Thank you.
