We have version 2.0 Some of our users receive the following:
"The registry information for this application is missing, or has been corrupted or altered. The application will now halt".
Any ideas..?

Thank you in advance for any help.

2.0? Really? That's pretty old. I've actually had a couple users of 2.13 report this error, but have yet to discover the root cause. A lot of stuff has been fixed since the 2.X line.

So, more than one user is experiencing this?

Have you installed any new software lately, or windows service packs?

Try reinstalling. If that doesn't work, download the latest version from the website. You can at least run it in the 30-day trial mode to see if the problem goes away.

Starting this morning I have the same problem, with version 2.13. I didn't install any software or service packs on this system lately (Windows XP SP 2).

After uninstall and install I was able to use the program one time, although it gave some error messages about the license. But after that the program no longer starts, only the errormessage about the registry is displayed.

Next I installed version 3.80 that I am using on another system, and that version seems to work without problems.

I'm glad to hear the problem is gone. Are you able to try any other versions to pinpoint where the error might have been resolved?

I am still unable to reproduce this.

Yes it is old. But up to now it worked fine. After re-installing it. The users were fine. I'd have to ask our engineers if there were changes made in our system.
Thanks for you reply.

We started getting that same error message here at Boys Town this week. We have version 2.12. Four systems out of six have now had the error this week. Reinstalling, or even uninstalling, cleaning out the registry, and reinstalling, allows you to run it once before you get the error again.

Same problem here with version 2.12. If I install a newer version, do I need to purchase the license again? The problem seems to exist for versions 2.x. Any chance of fixing this and give us a patch to solve the problem rather than have us download a newer version? Thanks.

It would be too difficult to patch 2.13. Most of the core code is under source control, but I wouldn't be able to completely rebuild a 2.13 build environment, including 3rd party libraries, packages, installers, etc... I'm afraid I'd create more problems than I'd fix.

If you don't want to bother with the newest version, you might try going to 3.00 or 3.13. There may be a way to upgrade your 2.13 license without having to buy anything else.

Follow these steps:

1. First, you must remember or find somewhere the original email address you used when you made your purchase.

2. Go to the Celestial Software website and click the 'purchase now' button on the nav pane

3. Click the 'upgrade now' option

4. It will tell you you're not logged in and give you the option to login or register. Choose 'Register'.

5. Click 'Agree'

6. Fill out the registration form, but be sure to use the email address from your original purchase. Don't worry, you'll have the opportunity to change it later if it's not still a valid email address. The email address is used to lookup the info about your original purchase.

7. Submit the registration form.

8. Upon successful registration, click the 'my account' link on the nav pane at the left. You should see your purchase information.

9. If necessary choose the 'my profile' option to change your email address to something more current

10. On the 'my account' page, click 'email my license' to have the license sent to your email address.

This process updates your license to one that can be used within the 3.XX product. Once you get the license in the email, you can go to Help->Enter license key in the program and enter the key. The one important thing to remember is to *remove* the dashes in the license key when you enter it. It was necessary to add the dashes to the key to avoid the license email being identified as spam. Version 4.XX automatically strips the dashes. In earlier versions, you'll have to do it yourself.

Also, there is still the 1 year limit on free upgrades. Since version 3.00 came out on jan 1, 2004, you must have purchased your license after jan 1, 2003 in order for this procedure to work. If you are unsure when you purchased your license, complete steps 1-8 above. When you're at the 'my account' page, it will tell you when you purchased. It will also provide a link for a discounted upgrade if you want to go straight to 4.01.

Wow! That was a mouthfull!

Okay thanks fema/Brian. I'll need to look up what info I used when I bought it. So where can I download the 3.x exe? If I want version 3.50, where can I download this exe? This site only offers 4.01 now, right? Thanks for your help again.

Forgot to ask do you why all of a sudden the application stops working for versions 2.x? At first I thought it was just me, but coming here and seeing a couple others are also having the same problem makes wonder why it just stops working. The only thing(s) I've installed in the past couple of days was Windows Updates, but the app was still working up until today, after I installed the Updates (I use it everyday).

Sorry about the 'fema' thing.

I created a new account to test the re-license steps I mentioned above.

To download 3.00, grab this link:

Beta Testing

Check out the 'version history' link at the left for release dates to see which one you can use with your existing license. I'm not sure why 2.13 is doing this. But, I've had reports that going to at least 3.00 takes care of the problem.

Thank you so much for your help. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll just buy the new version. It's a great software and I've been using it for a couple of years now. Keep up the good work. 🙂

Just wanted to add to this list.
We have 10 users. I think like 8 out of ten have gotten this error so far.
This must be some kind of date related thing.
We have been using version 2.12
It was working fine up till this error.
I think it all started on the 16th.

uninstalling and reinstalling works. But, the error returns.
