I'm new to the whole telnet thing and at school we have to telnet from windows machines to a unix server for working with java. That went fine, so I tried this program out and when I use it to connect to the server from home, everything I type is lagged by like 4-5 seconds. This did not happen at school. Is there something wrong with my settings or is it always going to be this slow with any telnet program? Thanks in advance.

The lag is going to be completely dependant on your network configuration. If you're using dialup from home, there's bound to be lag. When you're at school, you're on the local network which will be very fast. If you have broadband (cable or DSL) from home, things should be very quick as well.
This isn't an AbsoluteTelnet issue per-se. The issue will be the same with any client.
