Send to Serial Port printing 10 Years, 7 Months ago
|
|
When using this option I am receiving two error messages:
"Could not configure serial portIncorrect function"
"Could not configure serial timeoutsIncorrect function"
Once I've hit "Ok" on each of the error windows, the print jobs completes without issue.
Any thoughts on how to prevent these errors from appearing?
Thanks

The issue is likely due to system-wide issues with the serial port. Can you determine if there is any consistency among the problem machines regarding which type of serial port (Built-in, USB-to-Serial, driver version, etc)
Please try the following and le me know if either helps:
1. Disable/Enable the serial port in device manager. Restart Absolute and try again.
2. Make sure you have the latest driver (USB Serial Adapaters are bad about this) Restart Absolute and try again.

Disabling and enabling the port worked. After doing this, it printed without the error messages displaying.
But, when I rebooted the machine, the errors reappeared.
Also, the latest driver is installed.
Thanks

Another thing I'd like you to try.....
There are two ways you can connect to a serial port. One is as a printer like you're doing. The other is as a serial terminal. These two methods use slightly different methods of connecting to the serial port, so I want to see if both will fail with the same error you're getting. So, configure a new AbsoluteTelnet connection file like this:
1. File->New Connection File
2. On the 'connection' tab, choose 'Direct to COM'
3. Choose the port number, but don't use 'configure port', at least not yet
4. CLick 'OK'
5. Choose File->Connect if it did not already try to connect
Does it connect or give the same error message?
If it fails with the same message, try the following:
6. Choose 'Configure Port' on Options->Properties->Connection->DirectToCom and change the connection speed to 9600
7. Click OK back out to the terminal
8. Try to connect again.
Did it fail?

I received the same messages trying to connect using this method at both speeds.

Resorting to Google now....
Try disabling flow control through device manager. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide exact steps for this.

I changed the flow control to "None" in the device manager and the error still appeared. If disabling is different than changing it to none, let me know and I'll figure out how to do that.
This is happening on machines with different set ups. The 3 I'm using as test machines are set up as follows:
XP with built in serial
Win7 with serial to USB
Win7 with built in.

Still no luck. I cannot reproduce the issue.
Would you be interested in trying out a debug version so I can get more information back about the internals of what is going on?
Thanks,
Brian
