Clear screen/buffer? 13 Years, 8 Months ago
How can I clear the entire contents of a tabbed session window (its scrollback buffer)? I can close and close (disconnect) & reopen (then connect) the window but I'm sure there's a more convenient way to do this.

There is not currently a way to do this.

What is your reason for wanting this?

I run long tests and collect lots of log data (see my other post with scrollback questions). When I'm done with a test and want to run another one, I sometimes want to clear out all that old data so that it's easy to scroll thru only the new data and so that the FIND command doesn't keep finding obsolete data (PASS, FAIL words, etc.).

The CLEAR AT menu command only clears out the current window but not stuff beyond that in the scrollback log. So I often end up doing a full "Disconnect" followed by a window close, reopen and "Connect." Lots of overhead and cumbersome. Another menu command, an option (Clear clears only current window or the entire scrollback buffer), ALT-Clear menu, etc. would be appreciated.

There is no 'CLEAR AT' menu command command. Can you be a bit more specific about which command you think should clear the scrollback buffer? I could be convinced to change that behavior, but I'd need to know exactly which command you're talking about.

I'm sorry, I was referring to the "Reset Terminal" Options menu command. With the system(s) I'm SSHed into, invoking this menu command clears the active screen but not not anything already in the scrolled-off-the-screen buffer.

I don't know if the behavior I'm seeing (only clears active screen) is universal for AT or is system dependent. What is getting "reset?" I don't get logged out of my system when I invoke this command.

A terminal 'reset' clears the internals of the terminal emulation (screen position, character attributes, etc). However, it does not define what happens outside of the screen (the scrollback). I could be talked into modifying that menu command to also clear the scrollback.

Well, I'd be in favor of that but I don't want to break anybody else's setup. A perm change? An optional change (config setting? Hold down "ALT" key while choosing that command? A "confirm" dialog on the issue of clearing out the scrollback?).

Yes, I would also like the option to be able to clear the contents of the display screen and clear the history without having to close and reopen the session. I also use Attachemate Extra and they do have an option to clear the display and clear the history. This is one draw back with this product, other than that I really do like the product alot. - thanks

I also would like to see a command to clear the screen and buffer.

Thanks.
