Vista Compatibility? 16 Years, 11 Months ago
Hi Brian, I'm about to take the leap from XP to Vista and was wondering if there are any issues with running AbsoluteTelnet on Vista. I'm happy if some of my apps don't work but I use AT a lot and it would deeply sadden me if I couldn't use it on Vista.

TIA,

Adrian

No issues that I'm aware of. I did have one report that port forwarding might be a little slow, but I have not been able to reproduce that issue and it seems to be isolated to a single user.

Let me know how you make out!

The 32bit version should run fine on Vista64. Version 7 has some updates that increase Vista compatibility:

I'm having issues with the Function keys when using vt320 emulation on Vista.
I tried to go to your link to download version 7 but the page wasn't accessible.
Has anyone been able to get the function keys to work for vt320 on Vista?

You only have this problem under Vista? Could you be more specific about the nature of the 'issues'?

Generally speaking about functions keys... A lot of host apps require custom mapped keys in order to work, not the default VT330 keys. It might be a good idea to find out what the host is *expecting* to see in terms of escape sequences and then map the Absolute keys to mimic that. If you have some other terminal app whose function keys *do* work, that would be a help in determining how to map the keys.

The current version of 7, btw is 7.14 if you want to try that...

Thanks for your response Brian.
The reason that I believe this to be a vista issue is that a co-worker is using this on xp and everything is working fine. I copied his .tnt config file and so my mappings should be correct.
The application has functions triggered by certain funtion keys. But when I press the keys nothing happens. I also installed the 7.12 version with the same results.

Here is a summary of my settings from the VT Options tab.
VT Keypad checked
7bit ctrl sequences
Terminal Type vt320
example from the keymap....
F5 x1B[6~

Thanks for you help!

so far, 64bit all works as emulated 32 bits, but no problem except for file icons and propierties from explorer, can you check about it?

Re: Vista Compatibility? 15 Years, 2 Months ago
The features you're talking about are implemented as what is called a 'shell extension', which is essentially a DLL that provides those features to Windows Explorer for use in property sheets, icons, etc.. As it turns out, 64-bit explorer can ONLY use 64-bit shell extensions. So, untill I build a 64-bit extension, those functions will not work on a 64-bit machine. Luckily, this is a relatively minor loss of functionality. Once you're in the main applicatiion, everything works the same.

Re:Win7 64-bit Compatibility? 14 Years, 3 Months ago
I know this thread is about Vista, but I've just installed the latest build of Celestial Telnet on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. From limited usage this evening, it all seems to be working just as well as my previous version on XP 32-bit, other than the icons not showing.

I realise this is a low priority given it doesn't affect core functionality, but is there a timeframe for a 64-bit build of the shell extensions ?

thanks
Geoff

I'll be addressing this is the next major update. Going to 64-bit is not as simple a task as it sounds. Thanks for asking, though. You're not the first!

Geoff,

Everything is working in 64-bit windows, just not the shell extension. I did fix the icon display so you at least don't get the white 'nothing here' icon. You get the stock AbsoluteTelnet icon.

Not sure when I'll get to this.

Using 9.53 on Win7 x64, I still get blank white icons (eg if I save a connection .tnt to the desktop).

Am I doing something wrong ?

Try doing a full uninstall and reinstall.

There are a few entries in the registry that have to be removed.

Let me know if that works or not and we'll go from there.

Yep, a complete uninstall and reinstall did the trick. Thanks.
