TOPIC: Dynamic Port Forwarding

Dynamic Port Forwarding 15 Years, 6 Months ago
Is there a way to setup a dynmaic port forward in Absolute Telnet. I know this feature is available in PuTTY and I use it to proxy my browser over an SSH tunnel to my home machine.

Just in case I'm not describing the feature properly, this is the PuTTY screen:

To setup a dynamic proxy on port 10000, set the source port to 10000 and click Dynamic then click the Add button.

PuTTY Dynamic Port Forward Configuration

I have static ports (VNC, RDP, etc.) working through AbsoluteTelnet, but I'd like to figure out this too so that I can use it exclusively.

Sorry, Robert. Dynamic port forwarding is not currently a feature of AbsoluteTelnet/SSH. It is on my todo list, however.

On a personal note, I do something similar by using squid as an http proxy and a single tunnel to the proxy.

Keep your eyes on the new versions for this feature soon.

No problem.

I'll look into your suggestion about using squid. But to be honest, PuTTY is working fine for what I need. I just had hoped it was in AbsoluteTelnet because it is my preferred SSH client due to the tabs and the built in SFTP client.

I'll keep an eye on the updates. Thanks.

I'm looking into this now. There's a chance I may be able to implement this without too much trouble. Stay tuned!

Re: Dynamic Port Forwarding, VNC/RDP over SSH 15 Years, 2 Months ago
I have a need to get VNC, RDP working over SSH. Is there any info on how to set this up with AT (6.28)?

Also, has dynamic port forwarding been added or will it soon (per this 4-month-old thread).

Yes, you can use VNC and RDP (RDC?) over SSH> This is a simple case of static port forwarding. Look at Options->Properties->Connection->SSH2->Forwarding. ALL you need to know is the port you want to forward and the machine you want to forward it to. If you need help setting this up, let me know.

Dynamic port forwarding is *not* in version 7. Turns out to be more complicated than I thought. It's still on my todo list, though. Version 7 introduces a number of other complex features, such as scripting, FIPS compliance, and docking tabs. Adding Dynamic forwarding was too much for me to handle at once.

Stay tuned, though....
