TOPIC: Trying to close handle I didn't open
#2685
Trying to close handle I didn't open 12 Years, 2 Months ago
Absolute Telnet 9.15 running on 64bit Windows 7.

At the end of every batch of file transfers I always get the following two non-fatal pop-up errors:

Tring to close handle I didn't open in
c:celestialsourcecscommoncs/istreampipe.h line 70

and

Tring to close handle I didn't open in
c:celestialsourcecscommoncs/streampipe.h line 142

I got these in the prior version as well, just never got around to reporting them. As I said they are non-fatal, I can click "OK" in the pop-ups and everything is fine. Just annoying. Oh, btw, "Tring" <sic> above is accurate, there is a typo in the error message -- the "y" is missing in what should be "Trying".

I believe that is fixed in the latest release. Can you try this:

www.celestialsoftware.net/telnet/AbsoluteTelnet9.48.exe

It seems to work and the bug appears to be exorcised.

I gotta say, though, trying a new version like that is painful. It does seem to come up with some license in the box but that is "invalid", and my current license is "not valid for this version", so then I have to get a demo license emailed to me for it to work; and then after testing whatever the problem is, I have to uninstall the newer version (since I don't want the demo constraints) and reinstall the old version for which I have a valid license. Maybe I'm missing something, but I have had this happen the last two times I have reported a bug (Having the particular bug fixed is not worth $50 to me).

I understand your frustration, but bug fixes can't be made to older versions, only in the current version. If a bug is already fixed in a newer version than you have, the only way to get the fix is to take that version.

That's one of the reasons I offer free upgrades for a year after your purchase. If you find anything wrong with the version you purchased, I fix it for you free of charge, usually within hours or at least a few days. If you didn't find a bug for a year, it was probably not significant.

Which version do you have and when did you purchase it?
