.tnt shows (Modified)? 19 Years, 2 Months ago
I have 3.63 installed and when I start any .tnt file, it shows as (Modified) in the title bar even though I haven't changed anything.

Can you send a copy of the .tnt file?

Are you sure nothing has changed?

Options like 'Remember Postion' can cause the file to show as (modified) just by moving or maximizing the window.

Brian,
I am getting inconsistent results. This morning, whenever I started a .tnt, it would come up (Modified). I would save it and go on. If I started it again it would again come up modified. Now I don't get that behavior, at least when I save it and restart it, it doesn't come up modified. I still have a couple of .tnt's that come up modified that I haven't saved. I do not have Remember Position turned on. I am sending a sample via email.

Don,

It doesn't come up as (modified) for me. Is it possible that it switches to (modified) at login time, either before, during, or immediately after?.

Because AbsoluteTelnet by default will immediately try to connect when you open the .tnt file, follow these steps to help isolate the problem:

1. Open AbsoluteTelnet
2. Go to Options->Properties->Global
3. switch the 'connect on open' to no
4. Change the 'activity at program startup' to 'do nothing'
5. Close AbsoluteTelnet
6. Start AbsoluteTelnet from the start->Programs menu in Windows
7. Choose File->Open and open the .tnt file that is causing the problems. (connection will not start because of the options we set above)
8. Now that the file is loaded, does it say (modified)???
9. Now, start the connection by hitting the lightning bolt.
10. login to your host
11. Does it say (modified) now?

Yes, it says modified in both steps.

Ok, here's something else to try...

1. Close all copies of AbsoluteTelnet.

2. Right-click on the .tnt file in Windows explorer Choose 'Properties' from the menu.

3. Go to the 'vt options' page and make note of the rows, columns that are set there.

4. Open absoluteTelnet

5. Load the connection file.

6. Check Options->Properties->VT Options and see if the rows and columns are still the same.

If the rows or columns are now smaller, it means Windows did not allow you to open a window as big as the .tnt file requested. The window size (and hence the rows, columns) are now smaller, causing the (modified) indicator to display.

However, once you save the .tnt file with the new size, it should not do this again.

That's it. A couple of days ago, I remoted to this machine and changed (decreased) the resolution to match up. That changed the rows and columns allowable. Thanks for figuring it out.
