TOPIC: SSH2 and not connecting
#2227
SSH2 and not connecting 15 Years, 1 Month ago
I've looked around the forum and read some posting that are close to my problem but not quite so here goes:

I'm attempting to connect to a server using SSH2. I type the Hostname URL click OK and... nothing.

When I use PuTTY, I press send I connect to the server with a prompt to enter my username, once entered it ask from my password and away I go. The usual logon to a unix system.

So why can't I logon using Absolute Telnet? I read one post suggesting that I check 'Use Keyboard-interactive login'. Should I try this.

The one thing I'm really worried about it the fact that after 3 tries, I'm kicked off the server and have to contact the administrator to clear the block. So I don't have a lot of attempts to get it right.

My O/S is Vista Home Premium (UG!).

Thanks for any advise because I'd like to use Absolute as my telnet app.

If you really get nothing... no error message or anything, then perhaps you did not start the connection. After entering the hostname, connection type, and port into the Options->Properties->Connection->SSH2 page, you have to start the connection. You could either:

1. Choose File->Connect from the menu
2. Hit the Connect button on the toolbar
3. Hit the 'enter' key (a shortcut)

In the status bar, Absolute will say 'Connecting....' If the connect fails, you should get an error message explaining why. If authentication fails, you could try a different authentication method (keyboard-interactive). You could enable this on the login dialog at login time or in the Authentication dialog of Options->Properties->Connection->SSH2 before you login.

If none of this helps, please post here again and explain exactly what you're seeing on screen, in the status bar, error popups, etc... Without a WebEx, this is the only way I can determine what is going on to try to help you.

Yippee! It's working.

I had to check 'Use Keyboard-interactive login' and I'm able to connect.

Thanks
