You can get *almost* full screen by going to Options->Properties->Appearance and switching off scrollbars, tool bar, and status bar. When you maximize, the only thing that is left, then, is the title bar of the window and the menu bar. And, if you want to maintain the screen dimensions (say 80x24 screen), you should choose 'Fixed Size' on Options->Properties->VT Options before you maximize.

Is this close enough or are you looking for an entirely full-screen terminal window?

I'm still experimenting. Actually I want to keep the scrollbar & toolbar so the options you mentioned wouldnt apply. If you know of any other way to get the full screen let me know. Generally however I like the program and will try it a bit more before I purchase it. Thanks.

So, when you say 'full screen', what you mean is maximized but without the menu, title, or status bars. Vertical scrollbar and and toolbar would remain?

Re: full screen 20 Years, 11 Months ago
Actually I would just like a larger screen - in fact not a 'full screen' because I prefer to have the title, menu, toolbars, and vertical scrollbar. In other words, I would like the window to open up at 'maximized' or near max size. This might be an unreasonable request as even IE doesnt always open up maximized. The problem I have is that whenever I open a new folder (telnet to a different switch) the screen comes up small (1/4 size of the 17" screen). That is, when I have one screen open at 'maximized', then I telnet to a different switch, the screen reduces again to the 1/4 size. My solution to these problems now is simply to maximize again, which isnt a big deal, except that I telnet to various switches all day long.

You can open a connection to your host, set the colors, screen size (maximized), and other settings, and then use File->Save to save the connection settings to a file, perhaps on your desktop or a folder on your desktop. Then, when you double-click the file, absolutetelnet will start up with the same settings every time!

After thinking about your request, I'm considering augmenting the 'remember position' option to include the maximized state. Currently, if you save a connection file that is maximized and using the 'remember position' flag, only the non-maximized position is remembered, but this still requires you to manually maximize to see the screen fully.

Re: full screen 20 Years, 11 Months ago
OK. Maybe that will help another problem I'm having. Whenever I open a screen, it opens at max, but on my pc at least it is off-center, to the bottom right, with part of the window hidden, so that I can't see the bottom few lines and the vertical scroll bar. I always have to drag it to the middle of the screen, or maximize again. This is OK, but not perfect, still requiring the extra step.

Also, when I save a maximized screen and check 'remember position', the next time I open the screen it doesn't appear at all. I have to go to the sidebar, right-click, and maximize. So at this point the 'remember position' combined with maximize isnt an option.

Does 'remember position' work otherwise (non maximized)?? It worries me somewhat that you're not seeing the terminal window at all!

Re: full screen 20 Years, 11 Months ago
Moises,

I've got a new beta version that addresses this issue. 'Remember position' now recalls the maximized state, so we should be close to what your needs are. There's also a new feature to set default values for every single option using the 'Global Defaults' feature. See Options->Properties->Global.

To use this feature, just set all the program options you want, including colors, fonts, connection type, terminal settings, etc... Go to Options->Properties->Global and save the default values. Then, every time you start AbsoluteTelnet all you have to do is supply the hostname of your new connection and voila!

You can download it here:

http://www.celestialsoftware.net/telnet/beta_software.html

Let me know how it goes....

since the beta expires 4/28 I'll just wait for the next full release instead of installing a beta.

Well... I was hoping you could try it out as it specifically seems to address your needs. If I can't get outside confirmation that this is working well, it likely won't be in the next production release.

Re: full screen 20 Years, 10 Months ago
3 points:

1. I noticed a small bug. After I select maximized screen and 'remember position' and save, then when I later want to use a smaller screen (for ex. if I want to view 2 screens side by side) I cannot do so, until I unclick 'remember position', save, close the program and reopen it. Then I can adjust the screen to a smaller size. But then afterwards I have to reset the screen to maximum and set 'remember position' and save. All of this is a slight hassle. I should be able to use a smaller screen any time.

2. My trial period ends in 9 days. I'd like to extend that period if possible to continue testing.

3. when I am ready to purchase, can I just continue using 2.13 rc12? I'd prefer to, as I understand that the next release v2.12 wont have the 'remember position at maximum' option.

Please excuse all the questions.

Moises,

You should still be able to un-maximize the window even with the remembered position flag set. You may get confused by the fact that when you un-maximize, the window *might* still be the same size in the same position as the maximized window. The difference is, though, that you'll be able to move it and resize it. I'll look at the code and see if there is anything I can do to address this.

when I unmaximize the screen, it disappears completely instead of going to a smaller size. And when I then click on the icon in the sidebar, the screen doesnt reappear, unless I right-click on the icon and maximize. And I still can't adjust the screen size in nonmaximized position (W2000).

E-mail the connection file to me, with remember position enabled and screen maximized.

I must have hit some key to mess things up, but now when I start up version 6.28 it opens and then fills the entire monitor screen and I can't seem to do anything o reduce it. There are no commands/lines visible at the top of the - just a full black screen with a prompt command from the server I am connected to. HELP!
